| Storyline: Mick and Joey are out of money, waiting to go home, when Joey gets a lunch date with a woman.
Of course Gordon is involved, Mick comes to the rescue to save Joey once again.

According to US This episode starts out with Mick & Joey in Hawaii. They've followed Hurricane Larry (?) and rode out the waves until they died, and are now waiting for their flight back home. Mick states that they used the rest of their money on airfare for the return home, so they are splitting lunch on what little they have left. Rick/Mick is sporting another splashy shirt & too much forehead, and this reviewer wishes it wasn't so windy in this scene. The only good thing on this man is the stubble he is sporting. Mick & Joey are arguing over ketchup - Mick walks off to get some, while Joey notices a blonde girl giving him "the eye". When Mick returns, Joey is now sitting at a table with this girl. They get up to leave and she tells Joey, "I'll see you at the dock." Mick asks Joey what's going on, Joey explains she just invited him to lunch on her father's boat. Mick reminds him of their flight in a few hours. Joey assures Mick he won't be late; we see the girl getting into a car and telling the driver, "He's perfect. He hasn't got a clue."
After the commercial, Mick & Joey are at the marina. Mick leaves Joey at the yacht, again reminding him to keep track of the time. Victoria (the girl) is waiting with the boat captain, whom she introduces to Joey as Hal. Hal doesn't like Joey; Victoria chides him that it's because he's cute. She tells Joey her father will be there shortly. Mick is sitting on a bench, looking out at the ocean. A woman dressed in white, wearing a hat sits down beside him. (Lucy Lawless) She has a sandwich in her hand. Her hat blows off in the wind, Mick chases after it. He gives the woman the Rick Springfield eyebrow shrug as he returns it to her. He is also eyeing her sandwich. They exchange small talk, she indicates she is on her lunch break, and she teases him that he only wants her sandwich. Back to Joey, we see Victoria's father arriving and he's barking orders at his assistant. He gets on the yacht, and as the assistant walks away, he meets up with 2 men and leaves with them. Mick and the woman are now walking on the beach, she is asking him if he makes a habit of eating strangers food. He laughs and she pegs him as an ex-cop. She explains she is getting divorced from an ex-cop. Mick tells her (a line perfect for Rick Springfield) "I had no idea I exuded such panache." . She tells him they are incompatible as he's leaving to get on a plane in 2 hours. Mick asks her if she believes in living in the moment. She says, "You mean the next 120 moments?" They look in each other's eyes, and share a long, lingering kiss while the tide is rolling in at their feet. Sigh.... lookie ---- <------there's a screen capture of it right over there. Dammit. We're back to Joey on the boat. Victoria's father has been lead to believe that Joey is the man his daughter is serious about. He is lecturing Joey on what a well-bred upbringing she has had, and Joey interrupts to dash down below to the bathroom. He is seasick. Back to Mick on the beach. He has an awkward question for the woman. "What is your name?" She playfully tells him, "Wouldn't it be more interesting if we kept it anonymous?" Then she replies, "Sharon Lift." He tells her his name, and she says it's a good one for a cop. He tells her that he works for a restaurant owner. She thought he was a private-eye for sure. He looks nervously at her. |

Back to the yacht, Victoria notices that Joey has been gone for a long time. While she goes down to find him, Hal points out to her father a fishing boat in the near distance. It appears they are having trouble. They are cruising over to the yacht in a dingy. The two men in the dingy climb on the yacht and proceed to knock out the father & Hal. They then sabotage the engine & electrical on the yacht, grab Victoria and throw them all in the dingy. Joey then makes his way up to the deck, and sees them cruising away. Victoria motions to him to be quiet. Mick & Sharon are still walking on the beach. (That's one damn long lunch break!) He's grinning at her looking sexy, stubbly & dimply all at once. I have no idea what the dialogue was. They decide to play some chess. (I know, I was like -What??? as well). Mick proceeds to win the game, and it ticks Sharon off. He calls her a sore loser and says he should say goodbye, and get back to the hotel to meet up with his brother to catch his flight. Joey is watching the fishing boat, and decides to go below the deck to try to radio for some help. He mutters that the boat he is on is "Dead in the Water". Over on the fishing boat, the father is now conscious and demanding to know what the kidnappers want. The fisherman says that he has ruined his life. Sharon drives up to the hotel, where Mick is standing outside. She apologizes and offers to drive him and Joey to the airport. Mick tells her he is still waiting for his brother. She says, "Don't tell me, he's lost and you're worried sick as it is not at all like him." Mick replies, "No, it's exactly like him!" She tells him she can give him a ride to the marina, it's on her way to work. (still on lunch I guess)
Back to the fishing boat, the kidnapper is explaining to Mr. Franklin (yay! he has a name now) that he cannot sell the fish he has caught to the distributor in the area, as Mr. Franklin bought it and has now closed it. He demands that he transfers all of his money to an offshore account and then resign from Franklin Enterprises. Mr. Franklin refuses and says that they should release him as his assistant should be looking for him now. The kidnappers then show him they have the assistant tied up on the boat as well. |

Mick then tries to call Joey's cell phone. He hears it ringing in a bag left on the dock at the marina. So he calls Gordon. He tells Gordon they've run into trouble. Gordon knows about Joey's date. It appears that Victoria is Gordon's goddaughter, and Gordon arranged the date for her. He tells Mick that she married Hal and hasn't told her father yet. She wanted to
"dis-impress" her father with Joey. Mick says, "So Joey's a dupe? Gordon: I wouldn't say that. Mick: A stooge? Gordon: I wouldn't say that either. Mick: A Chump? Gordon: I would say that. " Gordon then tells Mick to go to the Coast Guard station and he will have a chopper waiting for him there. He hangs up the phone and tells Fritz that Joey is in trouble. Fritz says, "And who put him there?" Gordon replies, "Maybe it's just karma." The fisherman radios his cohorts and indicates he cannot find Joey. The man in charge tells him to blow up the yacht. Victoria protests that Joey is an innocent bystander. The yacht then explodes. He tells Victoria and her father that Hal is next. Mick meets the chopper pilot. It's Sharon. He jokes with her, "When you said you had to fly...." She teases him that he thought she was a flight attendant. She then tells him, "I had no idea your restaurant owner was Gordon. And you ARE a PI! A carbon-copy of my ex-husband." Joey is alive. (naturally) He climbs on the fishing boat and finds a flare gun. He sees the assistant tied up inside. He goes in to untie him, and asks who he is. He explains he is Mr. Franklin's assistant. Joey says, "Oh, they kidnapped you too. Who are they?" The assistant states they are a couple friends of his as he knocks Joey out. Joey awakes, tied up in a room with Victoria and her Dad. The assistant comes in and tells Mr. Franklin he better transfer the funds. Joey is working on untying himself. They hear the chopper approaching. Joey says, "That's Mick." Sharon then says to Mick inside the copter, we have to turn back - we are running out of fuel. They start to turn around as Joey frees himself, knocks the assistant out and shoots up the flare. Mick realizes it's Joey on the boat and tells Sharon to go back. She says that they can't, so Mick decides to jump out of the chopper. She lowers him close to the water and tells him to be careful. Hal wakes up and manages to free himself from the net he is tied up in. He falls on the bad guy who now is holding onto Joey. A fist-fight ensues, as Mick climbs on the fishing boat. A few Tae-Kwon-Do moves from Mick, and he has saved the day! Victoria turns to her father and tells him that she and Hal are married. Mr. Franklin is so relieved that Joey is not "the one." The last scene has Mick & Sharon walking on the beach. They are saying goodbye, and there is another awesome lip-lock involved. Sharon walks away. Joey walks up to Mick and wipes the lipstick off of his lip. He's brought a cheeseburger for him. Mick asks him where he got the money to buy it. Joey explains that he hit up Mr. Franklin for some money. I give this episode 4 waves. Rick had great chemistry with Lucy Lawless (I can see why she showed up on future episodes). The plot was predictable, and the wardrobe sucked (again) but I thoroughly enjoyed watching this one. - Michelle P. |

| This show was just 'alright' for me. (not to sound like the judges from American
Idol...hee hee) It did have it's comical moments, which I love, but the storyline was not all that great. It seems that Joey and Mick just can't help getting themselves in a fix with the jobs Gordon lines up for them, before they actually know about it. And it sure doesn't take Mick long to pick up a woman (not surprised!) Poor Joey gets the short end of the stick whether it's with the women -or getting the half of the burger with no pickle. That little scene was really cute~ two grown men fighting over a burger! Never thought I would say I enjoyed listening to a banjo, but Gordon did a pretty good job with that thing. I wonder if Rick gave him a few pointers...LOL This episode was not really one of my favorites by far. - Amy L |

| What a great episode! This is one of my favorites yet! It starts out showing beautiful scenery as Mick narrates. He says they have been chasing some waves…Hurricane Larry, which led them to scenic Maui, Hawaii. The guys arrive too late, and wait for 2 weeks through flat waters, until finally all their funds are depleted. So they must use the remainder of the money to fly back home. It is about 3 hrs. until flight time & the brothers are sitting on a beachside bench, eating a cheeseburger. Only problem…they are SO broke that they have to split it & share an order of fries. Joey is fussing up a storm about this. (I thought this was quite a comical scene! I love Joeys squabbling & the frustrated looks Mick gives him!) They are literally down to pennies, because Mick couldn't even order cheese which was 20 cents extra! Joey claims Mick's half is bigger…so Mick switches the halves. THEN Joey finds a new complaint. Mick's half had the pickle! Oh well! "No ketchup," Joey fusses. Mick says, "ketchup isn't good for you, it's got salt, sugar, preservatives." (Was that a bit of Rick there? Mr. health-conscious?) So, to get Joey to hush, Mick goes back after some ketchup for little bro. Meanwhile…Joey spots a beautiful blonde checking him out. When Mick returns, he finds Joey sitting with the girl, chatting & flirting. She has invited Joey to join her for lunch on her daddy's boat, and she waves goodbye. Mick says, "you HATE boats. Anything longer than a longboat & you're as green as Kermit the frog." What a cute line!!! He tells Joey to be back in 2 hours so they won't miss their flight. It goes to a scene of the girl getting in a car with someone & saying that he (Joey) is clueless. Mick is walking Joey to the dock & they are talking back & forth. Then it shows the girl on the boat talking to a guy & telling him that Joey is perfect & daddy will hate him. It's real obvious at this point that something shady is happening. Pretty good for a surprise the 1st time I saw it, because I couldn't figure out why she'd hook up with him & want her dad to NOT like him. The scene switches to Mick sitting on the bench again, when a gorgeous women in a dress & hat (Lucy Lawless) pulls up the spot beside him. Mick is eyeballing her sandwich (and her too I think), and she keeps glancing over at him while she eats. Her hat then blows off & Mick runs & catches it. She also jumps up to get it. Mick is fondling the hat & she asks him something like "do you want to keep it?" Mick flirts, "well actually…I have a thing about hats. Some women can wear them & some can't." She wants to know which type she is. Mick says (with an adorable raise of one eyebrow & a sweet smile), "I think you know what you are." She asks, "are you trying to hit on me?" Mick: (eyebrows again!) "Maybe." They have a comical & cute chat about how she thinks he wants her for her sandwich. He tells her it's the wanting, not the having." She says he's the kind of guy who likes the thrill of the chase, and Mick replies, "it's a common male problem." He tells her she's got great eyes! How sweet! That would have done it for me….no chase there. Total willingness at this point! Blondie's father is arriving to the boat with a guy tailing him & arguing about business & board meetings. Daddy tells him that he cannot be bothered right now, he is getting ready to meet his daughters "young man" for lunch. He hops the boat. Unnoticed by daddy, 2 men head off the employee on the dock & tell him to come with them. Out at sea, Joey is jabbering & bragging, trying to impress his dates daddy, who is rather unimpressed. Meanwhile Mick is walking the beach with the woman. She wants to know if he makes a habit of eating strangers' food. Mick says, "I'm a little impulsive." She talks about her divorce & how she always seems to pick the wrong kind of man. Mick becomes a bit defensive…he looks her square in the eyes & says, "what makes you think we're incompatible?" She says because he's getting on a plane out of there in 2 hours. And Mick tells her she should live in the moment. They go into this romantic kiss on the beach. BUT at this point in time, they still don't even know each others names! Lol Out on the boat, Victoria's dad is giving Joey the 3rd degree, letting him know how his daughter is too good for someone like him. Joey says he thinks he's gonna hurl & takes off "downstairs." Mick is asking the girl now for her name…Sharon. They exchange names & she asks him what he does for a living. Mick tells her he works for a guy who owns a restaurant. Sharon, as she had in a previous chat, insinuates he is a cop or PI. He invites her to a game of chess. Victoria's dad is getting worried about Joey being down below so long, so Victoria goes down to check on him. Joey is very green & sick in the bathroom, but he lies to her & says he's combing his hair. LOL That's cute…trying to be tough huh Joey?! |

Some guys in a speed boat come up to the boat claiming they'd called May Day & one of their engines had failed. They hop the boat & bash daddy's boat guy (don't know his name!) over the back. They knock Victoria's dad over & grab her. Now a guy with a gun has her! Joey can hear a racket going on, but he's still chunking cookies & can't come up. This is pretty funny how the drama is unfolding up above & the camera keeps flashing back to Kermit---I mean Joey---hugging the potty! One of the bad guys rips the boat wires loose before loading up Victoria, daddy & dad's boat guy onto their boat & taking off with them. Right about this point, Joey makes it to the top to see them being taken hostage. I'm glad Joey is feeling better now. J He can save the day. Back at the beach, Mick & Sharon are deep into a game of chess. Mick is thinking. Sharon tells him, "come on Barrett, life is passing you by. No pressure." They exchange a few comments & then Sharon tries to cheat because she sees Mick is winning. They have a debate & Mick jumps up saying he's got to get back to the hotel to meet Joey. She says, "I didn't expect it to end like this," and Mick asks, "by the way, did your divorce papers happen to mention what a sore loser you are?" I love the perturbed look on Mick's face as he leaves the game! Back to Joey who is watching the bad guys load up the gang onto another larger boat, being careful they don't see him watching. Joey discovers the boat won't start & says to himself, "dead in the water." Aboard the other boat, Victoria's dad is asking the bad guy, "who are you people, what do you want from us?" The mean man (as my daughter would put it…LOL) yells at daddy, "you ruined my life!" But daddy is clueless. He doesn't know the guy. He makes a plea for them to let his daughter go, but the guy avoids his plea & says, "I'm a fisherman." On the other boat we see Joey trying to radio for help, but to no avail. All the power has been cut! Sharon drives up to Mick, who is waiting outside the hotel for Joey, and makes an apology to Mick for the chess game. She offers them a ride to the airport. Only problem…there's no Joey. So instead she says that on her way to work she can drop him off at the marina to look for Joey.
Meanwhile, the bad guy with the gun is telling Vicky's daddy that fishing is hard work, but at least it's honest. Only problem…he can't make a living to pay for his boat, just like so many other small fishing businesses. The bad guy wants revenge because he says that Vicky's dad has bought out his distributor & sold it off in pieces. He has ruined the little guy! He demands that Vicky's dad transfer all his money to a bank account, call a board meeting & then announce his resignation. Out comes the other guy with a gun held on his assistant (the one who got captured at the dock). |

When Mick reaches the airport, it turns out to be Sharon who's the pilot. When she said she had to fly, she really meant it! Turns out she knows Gordon, and tells Mick, "so you are a private eye? You're beginning to look like a carbon copy of my ex-husband." I love this part, while she is warming up the copter & Mick starts pushing buttons!!! Just like a man…can't resist buttons! And she says, "hey, please don't touch anything!" Mick: (defensive) "okay okay!" Off they go looking for the boat… Meanwhile, Joey has swam to the kidnappers boat & is prowling, when he finds a gun. He creeps around & sees everyone, then through a window he sees Vicky's dad's corporate controller guy in the bottom of the boat tied up. But when he unties him, the dude whacks him over the head! Now Joey is tied up to a pole down below, beside Vicky & her dad. Joey comforts them that his brother will find them, he knows what the boat looks like. Except the boat is ashes now. Vicky's dad is dismayed that his own corporate controller betrayed him. Mick & Sharon are running low on fuel now, they've been searching for awhile. Mick keeps insisting they keep looking. But they only have 10 minutes of fuel left! The corporate guy is arguing with the bad guys. They want to kill them all, but he says "no, not until he transfers the funds." So he goes below to "work" on his boss man, and of course he's furious with him. Joey is untying his hands all the while that the guy is bullying his boss. The chopper is overhead now, and Mick is telling her to get in closer, he sees something. Joey hears them and says, "it's Mick." Mick refuses to go back with Sherry because of low fuel. Joey gets loose from his ropes & punches the corporate guy, runs out on deck & shoots a signal into the air. Mick sees it, so he decides to bail out…yes, JUMP! Big bro to the rescue! Sherry says she will fly down closer for him. Joey is fighting guys on deck, until they pull a gun on him and lead him back inside. Cute line as Mick is climbing out of the chopper: she says, "be careful," and Mick sarcastically says, "oh yeah, that's me…real careful!" and he jumps. The boat guy in the net is working hard on cutting his net so he can get loose. Joey is led outside (yet again!) by the gunmen, as they discuss killing him & pushing him overboard. Suddenly, the net is cut & out jumps the boat guy causing a scuffle on deck. Mick jumps aboard (with an AWESOME swinging kick! Good work Rick!) and kicks one of the guys out. Then he beats the crap out of the guys, he and Joey do, and Mick grabs the gun. As he turns the gun on the men, he says to Joey, "quick little cruise huh?" Joey replies, "hey! I'm not seasick!" Victoria runs to Hal, the boat guy and hugs him. Her daddy says, "Victoria. Him?" pointing to the boy. She says "yes daddy. Hal & I are married." Her daddy is QUITE grateful that Joey is not "the one." This last scene with Mick & Sharon is bittersweet! They are now walking the beach & she tells him that was some stunt he pulled, jumping out of her helicopter. Mick says, "I have this terrible habit of showing off when I start dating a woman." (how sweet! A line, but a sweet one!) Mick tells her they are dating in the cosmic sense. I love that line too. She says, "riiight, like on another planet." And Mick replies, "No like if & when the fates decide." So they are saying their goodbyes which is a cute and sad conversation (parting is such sweet sorrow). Since they must say goodbye ("for now"), he just tells her that he believes she's got some unfinished business. Sharon says, "so where does that leave us," and Mick (biting his lip in a sexy manner) says "somewhere like this," and takes her face into his hands and lays a long and breathtaking kiss on her, as the ocean winds are blowing through their hair. Ahhhh….I can't help it, I'm such a sucker for romance! LOL He tells her with a smile, "take care," and she says "yeah you too. I'll see you in orbit right?" Then she is gone! Joey runs up right then saying, "nice that's your pilot friend, nice," and brushes the lipstick off Mick's mouth! Joey is toting 2 cheeseburger with the works & hands one to Mick. Victoria's dad had paid for the burgers, Joey says! Mick takes a bite then says, "there's no ketchup on this!" But he will not part with Joey this time for one of them to go get it. He gets him around the shoulders & says, "you're coming with me, we've got an hour before the plane leaves." Joey argues, "what? you think I'm gonna get in trouble in the 3 seconds it takes to get ketchup?" Mick gives him "the look." Joey takes off down the beach, quarreling every breath about how Mick should just trust him. It ends with Micks/Ricks great laugh! I give this one 5 waves! It was full of great humor & some awesome romance scenes for Mick. Also because the story took place on the water & at the beach. - Kelley Pearson |
