1000 YEARS
(words and music by Rick Springfield)

If only we talked it out a little more
You might never have gone away
If only I tried
Instead of making for the door
You'd be loving me still today

And if I'd only been a little wiser
You knew I knew the lies you told
But you thought I didn't care
And if I'd only shown my love
In so many different ways
If only you'd stayed

And in 1000 years
I'll still be thinking of you
Though in 1000 years
My love will all have gone
But in a 1000 years
We'll probably be together
But right now you're gone

If only I had you back again right now
Wouldn't ask for a thing, I know
Except to say I'm sorry, and how
And the wisdom to let it show

And if I'd only looked a little deeper
Each time I saw you weeping
how I wished I held you close
Cause if I only shown my love
In so many different ways
Baby you'd would stay

And in 1000 years
I'll still be thinking of you
Though in 1000 years
My love will all have gone
But in a 1000 years
We'll probably be together
But right now you're gone

And in 1000 years,
And in 1000 years
I'll still be thinking of you
And in 1000 years
Love will all have gone
And in 1000 years
We'll all be  together, forever
And in 1000 years
and ever and ever and ever and ever
And in 1000 years
I'll still be thinking of you
And in 1000 years

SONG FACTS:
This song was first recorded by Ronnie Burns, who was a very successful solo artist in Australia at the time.  His solo career was managed by Jeff Joseph, Zoot's manager.

This song appears on the LP Beginnings.

 According to US

This is definitely a little reminiscent of Great Lost Art of Conversation.  Rick has said he's experienced the loss of communication many times in his relationships, so you can see that really is a problem that seems to go way back.

Rick seems to have learned, though.  He seems to be better at expressing himself and showing his feelings than so many men usually are.

The main message  I get from the song is he's regretting not expressing how he felt, that he had the right feelings, it's just the other person in the relationship didn't know it.
The piano that is in it, especially the beginning....it reminds me of one of those pianos you get when you're a child, that you just kind of hit keys randomly.  I think I might have been able to play the opening piano part of this song.

Second, I love the way he says the word "been" - like 'bean' instead of "bin". - rlh

I love the beginning "child's piano" tinkling at the beginning of this song. Not sure why it's there, but it adds a sort of wistfulness to the song. I don't know why, but this song reminds me more of an Elton John song than a Beatles tune, although I can see a Beatle-like quality to the sound.

When I'd listen to this song back in the "dry days" i.e. no Rick for 10 years, this became my anthem as a RS fan. "And in 1000 years I'll still be thinking of you." I totally forgot that way of thinking until I started listening to this album again in earnest. "If only I had you back again right now, wouldn't ask for a thing." There were so many times I hoped upon last hope that I'd hear Rick on the radio unexpectedly one day, a new song....that he wouldn't be gone forever. I'd be teased endlessly by friends & family when they'd come across a Rick cassette in my car - they'd be laughing that I was still listening to him. I knew somewhere deep in my heart that he'd be back though. I just knew it :-)

Flash forward to present day, 2002. Here we are with Karma, and GHAlive, and the speculation of another new album in '03. Legion, Dying to Dance and EFX...and this list. Still this song's lyrics ring true for me. "You'd be loving me still today"

Yes Rick, in a 1000 years I'll still be thinking of you.  -
