I NEED YOU
(Words and Music by Buckingham, Scott, Avtograf )

Like an eagle soaring through the sky
I can see beyond the borders of our lives
No more fighting, no more taking sides
Now I'm standing here with both arms open wide
Talk to me and I won't be a stranger
Close your eyes, and we both feel the same

I Need You
Like the air I'm breathing
I Need You
You're  part of me inside
I'm with you
As long as my heart's beating
And together we'll survive

Stand beside me, we can work it out
I could use some help, and that's what love's about
Look through my eyes, past the setting sun
I could see a day when we can live as one
Take my hand; let nothing come between us
I will be here for you 'til the end

I Need You
Like the air I'm breathing
I Need You
You're  part of me inside
I'm with you
As long as my heart's beating
And together we'll survive

Hear me out; use your heart to listen
Different worlds can't keep us apart

I Need You
Like the air I'm breathing
I Need You
You're a part of me inside
I'm with you
As long as my heart's beating
And together we'll survive, yea

I Need You
I'll be here when you need me
I'll hold you as dear to me as life (as dear to me as life)

I Need You
You've given love  new meaning
You're a part of me inside

I found out about this song accidentally when I saw the movie. No, I didn't pay to see it, from 1986-1988 I worked in a movie theater. All the free movies I could watch! So it took me by surprise one day to hear Rick's voice coming out of the show. By then, I was a "bonafide Rick fan" and I probably would have recognized his voice if I was in a coma. I raced right over the record store at the other end of the mall...(boy is THAT an 80's statement, huh?) and bought the cassette. I took it home, and then was immediately confused-because the first thing I do with a new album is read the liner notes. I read that Rick didn't write it. Open drawer, insert cassette, do not open until the new millennium.

I've listened to this periodically now for the last few days, trying to reacquaint myself with it. Rick sounds like he was forced to sing this one. Was this a contractual obligation? Admittedly, it is a pretty song. It's just not a Rick song in the true sense of the word in my eyes, because he really didn't try to make it his. It wasn't released as a single, Rick didn't promote it, therefore it's just a bit o' history for us Springfield diehards.  - Michelle P.

I know a lot of people really love this song, but it's never been one of my favorites. Rick's voice is beautiful and it's a beautiful song, but something about it just doesn't feel like a Rick Springfield song to me. I read the lyrics and they aren't that different than songs that he's written. Maybe it's the music. - rlh
