HOLD ON TO YOUR DREAM
(Music & Lyrics by Rick Springfield)
You always felt you had a destiny
Yeah
You wouldn't bow down to the Gods
Of money and power, baby
You burned bright
To shed your light all over the world
You had a plan
And it was just a matter of time now
Here today, what happened to that dream
Don't tell me it's over
I still smell the fire
Stand up and hold on to your dream
Maybe this is your moment
Stand up and hold on to your dream
You know no one can take it
There is a path it's always been yours
And you have the right of passage
Signed in blood and sealed in tears
Sending you a message
Across the miles and through the years
Stand up and be there
And hold on to your dream
With some faith and conviction
Some faith and conviction
Take a good look, you don't like what you see, no
You just don't come this far and never get scarred, baby
It all seemed like fate
The big dreams weren't hard to make
Way back then
Something pure about that suffer for art and passion thing.
Standing here
What happened to those dreams
Don't tell me they're over
While your heart is still beating
Stand up and hold on to your dream
Maybe this is your moment
Stand up and hold on to your dream
You know no one can take it
There is a path it's always been yours
And you have the right of passage
Signed in blood and sealed in tears
Sending you a message
Across the miles and through the years
Stand up and be there
And hold on to your dream
With some faith and conviction
Some faith and conviction
In the church inside your head
It's soul communion time
Where you eat your doubts like bread
And then you drink your fear like wine
Where the sinner and the priest
Light candles one by one
And fear has another mouth to feed
When all the dreamin's done
Stand up and hold on to your dream
With some faith and conviction
Stand up and hold on to your dream
Baby, this is your momentStand
up and hold on to your dream
You know no one can take it
Stand up and hold on to your dream
With some faith and conviction
Stand up and hold on to your dream
Baby, this is your moment
Stand up and hold on to your dream
You know no one can take it
Stand up and hold on to your dream
With some faith and conviction
(total playing time 4:38)

According
to US
Somebody's having fun at the beginning of this song.
I don't know if this was the intent or not, but Rick could definitely have written this song for himself. He had this dream of being a musician, or actually even more than that. I heard him say in an interview that he wanted people to know who he was, so I'll go as far to say that he wanted to be a famous musician and dreamed of that for such a long time. And, it took him so long to finally make it. Since it didn't come easy, you have to think he really did appreciate it when it happened. But then, it didn't bring him the happiness he thought it would. So he walked away for a little while. This is such a perfect song to describe his situation. I don't like the talking part of the song. I like what is being said, but I just don't like that voice coming in and interrupting the song. And I really do like this song a lot more, thinking it's a message to himself.
