Joshua

(Rick Springfield/Matt Bissonette)

Joshua, life is looking at you
Come as you are, it’s a room with a view
“Time to stand up” is not an innuendo
Let the world in open up your window
Joshua I know your spirit is true

Your destiny is calling it’s no time to be shy
You can fly, do or die, let me hear your battle cry
Stand your ground, you can make this old earth shake
Touch the sky, testify, open up your tiger’s eye
You can turn this thing around
Make no mistake this is your battleground

Joshua, I was there from day one
I know what you are, you’re no prodigal son
Never been one for the false bravado
Or left me shunned incommunicado
Joshua, you’re the power of one
I know from where you stand it seems impossible to shine

You can fly, do or die, let me hear your battle cry
Dragonfly, your wings can make the oceans quake

Touch the sky, dream of fire
Looking through your tiger’s eye
You can turn this thing around
Make no mistake this is your battleground

And you’re not standing on your own

Joshua, you were born for this chance
Joshua, face the music and dance
You can fly, do or die, let me hear your battle cry
Stand your ground, you can make this old earth shake
Testify, live or die, open up your tiger’s eye
You can turn this thing around
Make no mistake this is your battleground

According to US

Rick wrote so many songs about Liam - like practically the whole Rock of Life album, that this song seems long overdue. It is so specific to his son, that I have a hard time connecting to it.

I love the rhyme between false bravado and incommunicado - he comes up with some of the best stuff.

Now, if you've heard Matt Bissonette's song "phone booth", this song might not be quite as touching and I kind of hope his son doesn't know that this song was a reworked song about Matt feeling sorry for phone booths because people don't use them anymore. Gee thanks Dad. - rlh
