Angel
(Rick Springfield)

Yeah Buddy

I used to wake up
with the scent of you on my skin
and I hate myself for wanting you
I don't dare

Your Body (yeah buddy) My Hands
I watch (yea buddy) you dance
My mouth (yeah buddy) Your lips
Your Ass (yeah Buddy) against my hips

Can't Stand what you do to me

Chorus
Hey Ah Sha Na Na Na
Never been so wrong
About a girl so right
Yeah we all know she's no angel
Hey Ah Sha Na Na Na
I was a deer in your bright headlight
Yeah look out below she's no angel

Yeah she's no angel anymore
Ain't that right honey?
Yeah Buddy
Yeah you bet

I must have made this all up
the empire of you
But for one moment dear
I think it was true

I grabbed (yeah buddy)
you slipped
pretty wings (yeah buddy)
they ripped

I can't eat (yea buddy) can't sleep
You know it (yea buddy) I'm a creep
I can't stand what you did to me

Chorus:
Hey Sha Na Na Na
Never been so wrong
About a girl so right

Yeah we all know she's no angel
Hey Ah Sha Na Na Na
I was a deer in your bright headlight
Girl look out below she's no angel

A kiss was a secret to you
Oh I feel like I'm drowning
Can't stand what you did, what you did

Hey Sha Na Na Na
Never been so wrong
About a girl so right
Hey we all know she's no angel
Hey Ah Sha Na Na Na
I was a deer in your bright headlight
Hey look out below she's no angel

She's no angel

Hmmm….what can one say about this one?! Quite a bit. I find Angel to be a very sexy little number. The visuals this one brings to mind, beginning with the 1st verse! “I used to wake up with the scent of you on my skin”……”and I hate myself for wanting you like I do.” (And my favorites) “your body my hands, I watch you dance. My mouth, your lips, your ass against my hips.” Wow! I really like the
blunt nature of the lyrics in this one. My other favorite lyrics: “and I hate myself for wanting you like I do”….”And I grabbed, you slipped. Pretty wings, they ripped”…..”You know it, I’m a creep”….I love how he changes it up a bit with each time he sings the chorus. He leaves out the ahs & ohs after “hey!” but then adds it in again “hey ah sha na na na….” right before “I was a deer in your bright headlight.” That sounds pretty cool, and for me adds a feeling of shock, that he can’t believ
some sha na na’  song. It’s short, but “sweet!”

The “yeah buddy” sound bytes are just great! It couldn’t fit more perfectly with this song. And it’s placed in all the right spots throughout the song….not too many, not too few.

I adore that little “ahhh” Rick does right after he says, “I must have made this all up, the empire of you.” Yow! He seems to go many different ways with his voice on this song. He has such a growly sound going on one minute, and then at other points…a sexy whisper. The music makes me want to dance around every time I hear it. I can’t be still at all during Angel. The “old record” effect is cool too. For some odd reason….I am reminded of the
J. Geils song “Centerfold,” every time I hear the chorus. It’s saying totally different things. It may be in the music somehow. Just a feeling .

I have no clue who Rick may have wrote this song about….but whoever it was/is, it must have been pretty intense. Even though I don’t know the story behind it,
I still love it. It’s one of my favorite new Rick songs. I feel it should have made the SDAA “album.” To me it would have fit in there beautifully! - Kelley Pearson

When this song begins I really like it. It has that "old LP" sound to it. The crackling noises like you are listening to an actual album make it interesting. I like the "Yeah Buddy"....only up until the part where he says " Yeah, she's no angel anymore, Ain't that right, honey? " then we hear " Yeah Buddy " again. For some reason that doesn't fit together for me.

This one has a happy, upbeat, enjoyable rhythm to it, but that darn "sha na na na" mess has to go. UGGHH!! Don't have any idea what he was thinking when he put that in there. I think that's really the only part I can't stand. I love the guitar parts at the end, definitely my favorite part on this one. Angel is a "good" one in my book, but not one that I have to listen to over and over - Amy L
