YES I'M GLAD
(words and music by Terry Britten)
Lend an ear to what I have to say
The rain outside has stopped with you to play
But if you notice what I am noticing
You'll be glad
Step outside
Step outside you'll find
Look above
Look above your mind
Lend an ear to what I have to say
The sun outside is gonna to shine today
But if you notice what I am noticing
You'll be glad
Look around
Look around you'll find
See the sound
See the sound of mind
Lend an ear to what I have to say
Turn around and see the light of day
Yes I know just what you are noticing
Are you glad
Thank you for all you have given me
The reasoning to see what is good and bad
I am happy you have found
A way to see the way and feel the way I am
I said look around
Look around you'll find
See the sound
See the sound of mind
Lend an ear to what I have to say
Turn around and see the light of day
Yes I notice what you're noticing
Are you glad
Yes, I'm glad
Are you glad
Yes, I'm glad
Are you glad

According to US
As I've said before, I actually like a few of the songs from Zoot that were not written by Rick. This is one of those songs. I think the music has a nice mellow flow to it and the lyrics are optimistic. It seems he is finding the good in everything around him. He is also trying to convince someone else to be glad for what they have: "The rain outside has stopped with you to play, but if you notice what I am noticing, you'll be glad."
I like the verse that says, "Step outside, step outside you'll find. Look above, look above your mind." I think he is saying that if you step away from what's on your mind, whatever might be bothering you, that you can truly find reasons to be glad. There are much worse things than one's own personal issues. ("turn around and see the light of day.") The clouds are not ALL lined in black, there are better things on the horizon. With each new day comes hope, and reasons to be happy: "Lend an ear to what I have to say. The sun outside is gonna shine today." Yes, things will get better and life will move on.
This song is very simple lyrically, and not really an amazing piece of work musically, but it gives me a great feeling when I hear it. I like the whole positive feel of the song.
