Who's Afraid of You
(words and music by Rick Springfield)

Who's the girl that I love best
I think you know it's you
But what makes me really glad
Is I'm your favorite, too
A girl like you, really draws a crowd
But I say this to them aloud

Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you
Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you

Feels so good inside to see them eating out their hearts
When I go out walking with you, that is when it starts
Several men are giving you the eye
But you don't receive them and I sigh

Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you
Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you

Who is the girl that I love best, I think you know it's you
But what makes me really glad
Is I'm your favorite, too
A girl like you really draws a crowd
But I say this to them all aloud

Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you
Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you

Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you
Who's afraid of, who's afraid of, who's afraid of you

Who's afraid of, who's afraid of (the big bad wolf), who's afraid of you (the big bad wolf)
Who's afraid of (the big bad wolf), who's afraid of (the big bad wolf), who's afraid of you (the big bad wolf)

Ummmm….Hmmmm…what to say about this song??!!! Ok….this is not going to be a good review. In fact..I believe this is the worst song I've seen (or heard) yet that Rick has written. (Sorry Rick!!!) And to think he said Annie Goodbody is crap! LOL….OH no….I like Annie Goodbody. That is a pretty good one in fact. What about this one Rick? Maybe he MEANT to forget this little tune.

When the music first started, I thought "well, not too bad." (only for about 10-15 seconds though) Then as it went along it got worse and worse for me!!! What rubbed me wrong immediately…"But what makes me really glad is I'm your favorite too." Do what??? Too corny for me. As it goes onto the next verse, it sounds like he is loving the fact that he has this woman, as a prize. More than the fact that he really likes her, but because the others "want" her by their side. Almost like he's enjoying their watchful eyes on her. He "won" her. I suppose the tune could be catchy for some, but for me it's kind of annoying really.

I really lost it when I heard that little "big bad wolf" jingle in there. The chorus already irked me, and now that. Then it even goes into saying "the big bad wolf." LOL….So is the woman he's with like the big bad wolf??? That did it for me! I don't know how much more I can ponder this song. I just don't like it. It is not for me. Thank goodness the songwriting and music Rick wrote matured and improved with time. (and into some of the greatest music of our times!) What was he thinking? I'd like to think someone else helped him write this one, but it doesn't say so.

My biggest plus for this song---it is NOT on my Zoot Locker CD! LOL

I listen to that one all the way through, on a regular basis, even though there are a few songs in the first 8 I could skip, I don't. If this one were to bust into the middle of enjoying the Zoot Locker disc, I don't think I could stand it. - Kelley Pearson

I don't even know what to say. First of all, this sounds like something straight out of "The Brady Bunch". Don't get me wrong, I loved the Brady Bunch, but I can just picture Jan and Marsha dancing around to this song in their bedroom, swooning over the guys from Zoot, or maybe Greg could be sitting in the den with a girlfriend playing it for her, while they snack on one of Alice's goodies.
Ok, back to reality here. Ugghh, I don't like this song. For one thing, the lyrics and music are just way too simplistic for what we know Rick is capable of. He is implying that this girl is evidently popular " a girl like you really draws a crowd" so then why the heck would anyone be "afraid" of her?!?! I know in high school, when someone did something that was considered bold, people would say "ooh, I am scared of you!" but this just doesn't seem to go along those lines in this song. (to me anyway) Anyhow, this song was written way before I was even in school, much less high school. Not sure what kind of sayings they had back then. "who's afraid of ( the big bad wolf), who's afraid of (the big bad wolf)......Makes no sense if you are talking about a girl, here!
To shorten this up, since I really don't like it, I am glad this song is not included on the only Zoot CD I own, (Zoot Locker) because I definitely would be skipping it every time. - Amy L.
